Subscapular Work - Getting It Right |
| Many of us use subscapular techniques
as part of our treatment for the upper back. By accessing the medial
border of the scapula it is possible to focus a treatment through
the middle fibres of trapezius into rhomboid muscles and to go beneath
these to the subscapularis muscle. |
| Considerations for Female Clients |
| The female body, particularly at joint
structures such as the wrist, shoulder, knee and ankle, is smaller.
And women are typically more energy-efficient than men are, with men
being stronger when calculated by absolute strength. |
| Using
Stretching Techniques |
| When I was training as a physiotherapist
I asked a supervisor what she thought was the most important advice
she could give me. "Always remember," she said, "that
what you do in the 40 minutes that you spend with a patient is of
little significance. It is what you give them to do in the 23 hours
and 20 minutes during which they are not seeing you that makes all
the difference." |

| Using
Postural Assessment |
| As a therapist you can probably picture
the kind of clients who might be described as having poor posture.
They sit or stand slumped, with medially rotated shoulders and hips,
their necks often with an exaggerated lordotic curve. |
| Treating
Poor Posture |
| Most massage therapists have come across
a client with what they describe as "poor posture". A more
accurate description of this is a kyphotic posture. |
| Sports
and Exercise Nutrition |
| There is increasing recognition that sub-optimal
calcium and magnesium intakes can affect sports performance and the
long term health of some athletes. |

Is
Pelvic Balance Important?
The design of the body is an amazing system of interconnecting and
interacting parts, no matter how you look at the body's systems there
isn't one part that is disconnected from or uninfluenced by all of
the others, even psychology or energy flow (meridians) are connected
to the structure and tissue. |

Soft
Tissue Release
Soft Tissue Release (STR) is not exclusive to Sport and Remedial massage.
In our rather large bag of remedial massage tools, STR is often chosen
because of its versatility and its ability to get quick results. |
