| Cypress Hydrolat |
| |
| Cupressus sempervirens
is commonly known as cypress and is a tall, evergreen tree
with slender branches and a conical shape. It has brown cones
and small flowers and the essential oil and hydrolat come
from the cone, needle and twigs. |

| |
| Cypress hydrolat
has a very manly, woody smell that is green and fresh. According
to experts, the hydrolat is astringent, cicatrisant, circulatory,
diuretic, regenerating, styptic and a vasoconstrictor. This
means that the hydrolat is extremely useful for many ailments,
particularly for the circulatory system. |
| |
|
| A known astringent,
the hydrolat is a circulatory stimulant, useful for haemorrhoids
as well as broken and varicose veins. Cypress can be used
in a spray with peppermint for aching legs. The vulnerary
and vasoconstricting properties make this beneficial for cuts,
bruises, ulcers and small wounds as well as for minor circulatory
ailments.Cypress is also good for counteracting water retention
due to its diuretic properties and is most useful after giving
birth as it will help to heal and tone the vulval area, help
the uterus to contract down again properly, and also help
with excess fluid in the body. |
|
|
| The Ancient World used cypress for
regulating body weight and increasing the metabolism, and also
for fluid on the lungs. |
| |
| Cypress can
also be used as a douche or in a bidet to help to combat cystitis
and should also be added regularly to the bathwater if this
problem persists. The astringent, antiseptic qualities will
help to heal the condition and soothe the area concerned. |
